There is a lot of grumbling over Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. Pretty humorous. But I will never use it again.
I’m addicted to the Internet, but “social” media brings out the worst in me.
What is the proper function of the internet? First of all, I’d say communication.
Here’s a problem I see. Who do you want to communicate with?
If you want to have leisurely Socratic chats good. I recommend this platform or Slug. (Though this is a lot more like a blog.)
But when it comes to organizing—as is essential now—the internet is not so good.
I’d say at least 30% are awake enough to know how bad things are even if they don’t know all the details. Another 40% are open minded.
I have an idea of how to use the internet to think globally and work locally.
Instead of aiming for millions of people to read our message throughout the English-speaking world, we should aim for 100-300 like minded people to meet with online for moral support and ideas of local activism.
Offline we could connect through print. Newsletters, posters, flyers, and pamphlets.
That way we could find more like-minded people where we live and get together for food growing, community defense, etc. Figure out avenues of civil disobedience more productive than centralized, noisy protests. Tailored to meet the need of each community. A bottoms up movement.
Side Note
I also have an idea of a grass roots, decentralized movement run by Christian women’s groups. Instead of reading frothy books about Mary and Martha or how Jesus wants you to be a pretty princess or how the rising food prices are a Goliath you must slay with a sling, eating too many goodies and gossiping (call it prayer requests) the Church women could actually make themselves useful at a local level.
Our society is rotting. There are three things that women are good at and have done long before we were “liberated.”
Caring for the sick and elderly.
Feeding and clothing the poor.
Educating children.
Even now the three occupations most attractive to the majority of women are nurse, social worker, and teacher. Benevolence, medicine, and education used to be run by the church too. Women have traditionally been avid church goers along with slaves or other social outcasts. I wonder if there is a link.
Perceptive observations.
