From Cyber to Steam Punk
This is a diagram of a modern steam engine.
The elitists control the drilling for oil. They have banned it—not to make money selling us electric cars, nor to prevent air pollution/greenhouse gases—but to kill off a number of us with man-made famine.
They want to bankrupt the farmers who can no longer run their gas fueled tractors so they can seize their lands. But more than that, too many of us in the rural areas rely on gas fueled cars to get around.
Eventually we will be forced into embracing 18th century lifestyles if we wish to stay out of their prison cities. But transitioning will require interim steps.
Since the baddies want to turn our lives into a cyber punk dystopia (crossed with grim dark) I suggest giving steam punk fantasy a try.
They’re making normal highways and roads undriveable. I suggest ATV’s or go carts powered by steam combustion engines. Depicted above.
I was discussing this with a family member the other day. He pointed out that steam powered cars had failed in the past.
That is true. But it wasn’t because the gas-powered cars were superior. It was Ford’s assembly line factory model of production and superior ad campaign that drove the Stanley brothers out of business. Not that his car designs were any better.

The neat thing is we no longer are tied to the old factory model of assembly thanks to 3D printing. Just like bypassing the middleman of the publishing houses with POD through improved 2D printing we can also bypass factory middlemen with 3D metal printers.
One or two mechanically savvy guys can MacGyver some vehicles together (Flatbed trailers might work. The kind used for transporting heavy loads.) and print out certain parts including the engine used.
Steam engines no longer have to be wound up by hand. They need just a small amount of flammable fuel to heat the water. Dry hay twisted into a loose braid—perhaps with the tip or fuse dipped in clear alcohol—would work. Of course, it would require changes of water and fuel. But no gas or electric station required!
